I really enjoy making trap beats. They often have a dark or scary feel to them, hard hitting drums, and a lot of variations. It is fun laying out all those complex snare rolls and hi hat runs.

Obviously we are talking about music production here so anything goes but those are some of the common elements of a trap beat. Today I want to share a tutorial with you I came across on YouTube. This is more of a “watch me make a beat style” video then tutorial but it is very educational if you want to make trap beats.
A lot of the trap beat elements I mentioned above are used in this video. This beat has a nice chord progression composed on the piano, some brass stabs, choirs, and hard hitting drums. Most of the instruments were created using Nexus (a very popular VSTi among producers.)
The Beat Mixing Guide
Are you struggling to make great sounding beats?
When making trap beats really focus on the complexity of your drums. A lot of changes and variations throughout your drums and beat in general will make it stand out from generic trap productions.
